What to Do with Your Car Keys/Bag at Events in Nairobi

Don’t let valuables ruin your event experience. Here’s what seasoned event-goers do:

For Your Bag

  • Leave it at home – Bring only essentials in pockets
  • Hotel concierge – If you’re visiting, many hotels store bags for free
  • Trusted parking attendants – At venues like Carnivore, attendants sometimes offer bag storage for KSh 200-500
  • Car storage – Lock valuables in your car if parked in secure, lit areas

Car Keys Strategy

  • Hide spare key – Magnetic key holders under your car (inspect location first)
  • Trusted friend – Give keys to the most responsible person in your group
  • Venue lockers – Some upmarket venues like KICC offer locker services
  • Pocket with zip – Never put keys in back pockets or open bags

What NOT to Do

  • Don’t give keys to strangers – Including unofficial “security” guys
  • Avoid loose pockets – Kenya’s crowded events are pickpocket territory
  • Don’t hide keys in obvious car spots – Under mats, sun visors are checked first

Smart Alternatives

  • Take Uber/Bolt – No car, no key worries
  • Go with designated driver – One person stays sober, keeps all keys
  • Use ride-sharing groups – Many Nairobi Facebook groups organize event transport

Warning: Be extra careful at venues like Carnivore or ASK Showground where parking is chaotic.

“Jogoo Wa Shamba Wawika Mjini” hit different. It nailed the shags-meets-city vibe installations that make you think about where you’re from vs where you are. Layers, textures, and real cultural depth. Worth the visit if you appreciate art that speaks to the Kenyan experience. Highly recommend! 🎨
