Parking can be a nightmare at popular events. Here’s the insider knowledge:

Venue-Specific Guide

KICC (Kenyatta International Convention Centre)

  • Official parking: KSh 300-500, well-organized
  • Street parking: Along Harambee Ave, free but risky
  • Alternative: Park at nearby malls (The Mall, Nextgen), walk 5-10 minutes
  • Tip: VIP ticket holders often get designated parking

Carnivore Restaurant/Grounds

  • Challenge: Most chaotic parking in Nairobi
  • Strategy: Arrive 1+ hours early for major events
  • Cost: KSh 500-1,000 depending on event size
  • Alternative: Park at Langata South Road shops, walk 800m
  • Security: Pay the attendants – it’s worth it for safety

Karen Country Club

  • Member parking: Reserved sections, well-organized
  • Public parking: KSh 300, limited spaces
  • Overflow: Spills to nearby streets during big events
  • Tip: Consider carpooling – parking is very limited

Uhuru Gardens

  • Free parking: But very limited for major events
  • Early arrival: Essential – lots fill by 2 PM for evening events
  • Alternative: Park in nearby estates, walk 10-15 minutes
  • Security: Bring your own car guard or tip attendants well

General Parking Tips

  • Arrive early: 1-2 hours for major events
  • Bring change: KSh 200-500 in small notes for attendants
  • Security: Always tip parking attendants (KSh 100-200)
  • Avoid: Blocking other cars – you might be stuck for hours

Alternative Strategies

  • Mall parking: Park at nearby malls, take Uber for last mile
  • Hotel parking: Some hotels allow event parking for KSh 500-1,000
  • Residential areas: Park in nearby estates, but be respectful
  • Group parking: One car for multiple friends

Safety First: Well-lit areas with attendants are worth the extra cost.

“Jogoo Wa Shamba Wawika Mjini” hit different. It nailed the shags-meets-city vibe installations that make you think about where you’re from vs where you are. Layers, textures, and real cultural depth. Worth the visit if you appreciate art that speaks to the Kenyan experience. Highly recommend! 🎨
