What happens when young people reimagine the forest?
@kairosimaginationsafari is a Nairobi-based arts collective that uses creativity to rethink ecological futures. For the UK/Kenya Legacy Programme, they’re partnering with UK researcher Niall Readfern to create “The Forest Imaginary.”
Niall spent two years in the Southwest Mau doing something most researchers don’t: walking interviews, body mapping, soundscape recordings. Listening to the people who actually live alongside the forest instead of talking over them.
Now that research becomes the foundation for Kairos Futura’s Safari Studio, where young adults from Masese get to imagine rewilded futures for their forest home. Not as subjects of conservation policy. As architects of transformation.
The result? A culmination here in Ngara featuring artworks, sound installations, sculptural pieces and speculative designs; all made by the community, for the community.
